Teaching and Learning To increase the achievement of every student, teachers draw upon a thorough understanding of learning and development; recognize the role of families in supporting learning; design a student centered learning environment; and use research-based instructional and assessment strategies that motivate, engage, and maximize the learning of all students.

Standard 2:
Rationale Instruction and assessment are the vehicles by which teachers design and deliver rigorous and relevant learning experiences for all learners. Research provides compelling evidence relating student achievement to teachers’ use of appropriate instructional strategies selected from a rich repertoire based in research and best practice. Researchers have also found a strong classroom learning culture that is strategically organized and managed to be essential to effective use of these strategies.

I think family and environment are two very important things for a teacher to incorporate into their lessons and teaching. Teachers should be aware of various backgrounds and cultures and incorporate these in the classroom so all students feel welcomed and are able to have a good and equitable learning environment.

Schooling and Cultural Autobiography
In this essay I was able to write about some of my personal backgrounds and experiences and how they relate to my teaching. This is a great connection to the teaching and learning standard because projects and papers like these help makes me aware of culture and how it connects to my classroom makeup and culture.

Cultural Map Activity
I did an activity where I looked up different religious houses of worship in the state of Alabama (specifically east Al) and reflected on the discovery I made. I made the realization that aside from Christianity there are not many houses of worship and reflected on how this might affect one's culture.
