Hi,

My name is Lily Strange and I am currently a Junior majoring in elementary education at Auburn University. I have three siblings: an older sister, younger brother, and 3 year old recently adopted sister. I have lived in many different cities in the state of Alabama and have had the chance to live in both big cities and rural communities and graduated from Fayette County High school in 2019. I have many passions and hobbies (playing tennis, walking, reading, meeting new people, and so on) but the most important things in my life are my faith and my family. I believe in family and connection to other people which is why I love Auburn University so much; Auburn truly is one big family! I have much experience working with children of all different backgrounds from working with children whose parents are in recovery, being a camp counselor, nannying, tutoring, and working with after school care programs. I am also currently an orientation leader for Auburn University.  One of my favorite bible verses says that "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart." Colossians 3:23. This is a principle I will always try to live my life by so I can love others entirely and pursue my passions whole heartedly.

What Does this Site Include?

This portfolio contains a lot of things! It includes 5 very important teaching standards for the State of Alabama teachers and included are explanations of why these standards are important for students, teachers, and administrators. I also have many of my own lesson designs and other projects attached within this website to showcase and demonstrate some of the many things I have done while in the teaching program here at Auburn University. I hope this site is useful in helping you connect to me and my dreams of becoming an educator and difference maker!

My Philosophy for Teaching

My father always said to me "who you are today is what you will become tomorrow" and when I reflect on this it really opens my eyes and heart to the important role a teacher has on others lives. The students who I have in my classroom will be influenced by me and I influencing the today part of who they will become later in life. Each student has different backgrounds and home life and financial makeup but one thing every single person has is a story to tell.  As an educator I want to be able to not only discover each student's story but give them tools and knowledge to turn the page and keep on adding to their story. Education is to learn and grow and to challenge ourselves. It is my goal to make sure that each student regardless of their varying abilities, backgrounds, or experiences feel loved and valued not only as  learners but as unique and beautiful people. I know I will have the privilege and great responsibility to influence others lives and I aspire to only influence them for the better. I will do everything in my power to ensure my classroom is safe, accepting, comforting, and a place for growth. I want to encourage new ideas and support my students however possible. I want to connect learning to the world around us and bring these ideas to life. I believe learning should be fun and exciting and we should always reach a little bit higher because there is always room to improve. I too will vow to learn with and from each student and never stop striving for more greatness. Together we can thrive!
